A full February and pottery painting at Emma Bridgewater

It’s been a while since I last updated the blog – for the main reason that life has been so darn full for the past month or two!

February always flies by in a whirl of birthdays and anniversaries; and this one has been especially packed with T away – first skiing, and then on work trips with family visits sandwiched in the short weekends between.

Combined with a new role for me at work, even those few days of solo parenting mid-week have been exhausting; as A finally seems to be dropping the hallowed post-lunch nap, in favour of needing to run off energy once or twice a day.

She now joins me for a double bill of PT in the park and swimming on a Tuesday – enough for a good night’s sleep before play dates with friends on Wednesdays. Blissfully I think this is the first time in over 3 years of knowing some of my Windsor mummy friends that we can now drink tea and hold a conversation without too much interruption as play sword fights, bike races, or impromptu animal hospitals emerge in the next room.

The leap in her language since she joined the Pre-School at her nursery has been incredible – especially in terms of the way she constructs sentences, and comes out with frightfully grown-up turns of phrase: “Actually, I would prefer that one. Daddy and I like it.” On the whole she’s a thoughtful, caring and polite little person; and certainly knows her own mind (especially when it comes to getting dressed in the morning!).

On one of the aforementioned family weekends, T’s mum (Granny) had organised a birthday treat for him of pottery painting at the Emma Bridgewater factory in Stoke-on-Trent near his home town. I’m not sure who enjoyed the treat more – me snapping away with my iPhone at the perfectly aged pottery buildings; or A getting the undivided attention of Daddy with some paints and dinosaur stamps. It was so lovely to take time to enjoy a creative activity as a whole family, without the usual tag-teaming, job-doing and email-checking of most evenings and weekends. Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.
